The meeting was held at the Group for the Analysis of Development (GRADE) on October 31st. It was possible thanks to GRADE, the Center for Distributive, Labor and Social Studies (CEDLAS)

, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), LACEA, IDB, WB and UNDP. The 19th edition focused on issues related to "Gender, Poverty and Inequality". Complementary, a workshop on "Decomposition Methods in Economics" was programmed, which was delivered by Sergio Firpo (PhD Berkeley). The workshop provided a comprenhensive overview of decomposition methods that have been developed since the work of Oaxaca and Blinder in the early 1970s. These methods are used to decompose the difference in a distributional statistic between two groups, or its change over time, into various explanatory factors. While the original work of Oaxaca and Blinder considered the case of the mean, the main focus was on other distributional statistics besides the mean, such as quantiles, the Gini coefficient or the variance. Assumptions required for identifying the different elements of the decomposition, as well as various estimation methods proposed in the literature were discussed. Finally, an illustration on how these methods work in practice was provided by discussing existing applications and working through a set of empirical examples.
